Carthage (formerly known as New Deadwood,) is a small to medium sized city somewhere in the southwest part of the United States. It has always been isolated from the rest of the country, surrounded on all sides by vast, dry desert.
The City had suddenly undergone a massive economic and population boom. Originally, it was known as a prison town, but as the IT and R&D sectors in the City bloomed, the town began to change with a large influx of much needed money and people. By the turn of 2016, Carthage had one of the highest crime rates in the country.
Since Carthage is so far away from everything, by the time of the outbreak, people were in a panic to flee. Judging by the sheer amount of piled up cars on the dusty desert roads and barren city streets Carthage boasts, and the air crafts that did not take flight, many did not make it.
Now, the City is little more than a locked down wasteland trapped by sand, where those that survived and still manage to avoid the mysterious disease laying waste to the rest of the City and likely, the world, fight to keep their lives in any way they can.
The world is a cruel place. Leaving Carthage is not considered an option, as clean water is in extremely short supply and the scorching desert plains seem to stretch on forever. Those who tried in the past, were never heard from again.
